Agricultural lime has land reclaiming effect thank to its ability to reduce aluminum toxicity of acid soil

In the area of alum soil if we have no suitable treatment and reclamation, it is very hard for cultivating and planting. Due to experience of permanent agriculture, we should dig canals in series, after that using agricultural lime to spread evenly on the whole soil surface in order to reduce alum (with each 150-200 kg of lime for 1000m2 of land). Thanks for rainwater, alum from soil is washed, after 1-2 rainy seasons acid soil will be reclaimed and impossible for planting. People call this is acid soil reclaiming process by the irrigation method combined with using agricultural lime.

 2 Lime has antiseptic and fungal disease preventive effects on plant                                         

At the beginning of rainy season, people often apply agricultural lime with dosage of 100-120kg limes for 1000m2 gardening allotments in order to prevent insects and diseased fungi, spread lime around foot of the tree or paint limewater on it.

Please note that for not mix agricultural lime with different fertilizers when applying, it had better to apply lime before applying other fertilizers about 3-5 days.

3 Lime supplies calcium for soil and improves the ability to develop root 

Lime using will supply Calcium (Ca) helping plant detox, enhance the ability to live in such disadvantageous conditions as hot, alum, salt and increase PH for soil so that, we should have basal agricultural liming before planting or periodic annual fertilization to add Calcium for soil. These help root develop and absorb other fertilizers better as well as save fertilizer. For example, if using cattle manure or inorganic fertilizer we can realize that leaves are greener. When disadvantageous condition comes such as prolonged rain that causes flooding leading to brown leaf syndrome because of effected roots, for improving this, firstly, we should spread agricultural lime around the foot of tree to protect root and disinfect soil. After few days, we must apply superphosphate and cattle manure, the plant will recover soon.

Lime using in Aquaculture

Lime is a chemical used widely to increase pH water (especially when heavy rain), increase alkali strength, reduce alum in soil and water, exterminate impurities, decrease algae, disinfect pond, clarify water, reduce CO2, decompose mud, create alkali environment helping strengthen shrimp carapace.

Chemical formula: main type:

  • CaO (burnt lime, live lime): increase pH dramatically, only use for pond reclamation, not use for pond shrimp and fish cultivation
  • Ca(OH)2 (caustic lime): use for pond reclamation and increasing pH
  • CaCO3 (limestone, agricultural lime, super calcium): lower alum, disinfect

Commercial product type: powder / white lump shape. Depend on purposes of use to choose suitable lime

Advantage:

- Cheap, many uses

Disadvantage: 

- Be prone to lose effect in humidity

Usage:

1/ Reclaiming pond cultivation: use lime powder CaCO3 or caustic lime Ca(OH)2 with dosage  10 – 15 kg/ 100m2.

2/ Lowering alum: in pond cultivation, in rainy season or alum land often take place the alum washing syndrome and alum leaking from pond bed after rain. In this case, we often lime powder CaCO3 with the following dosage:

+ For pond young fish culture:from 3 to4 kg per100m2 blending with water

+For full-grown fish and shrimp: from 1 to2 kg/100m2 blending with water then spread down to the pond

+ For raft culture: hanging bag, dosage from 2 – 4 kg/10m3 water in raft, hanging each small bag in front of flow

3/Lime adapted to pond making organic chemical in gel formation that boating on water after rain settle down. Use CaCO3 to adjust the pond’s purity rate, dosage 1 – 2 kg/100m2 blending with water then spread over pond.

4/ Disease prevention for shrimp and fish: during cultivation, periodically every 10 – 15 days we should apply CaCO3 once, dosage: 1 – 2 kg/100m2 (forraft culture, hanging lime bag with dosage of 2 – 4 kg/10m3 water raft).
